It estimates your age from account signals and asks some people for a face scan or ID. In October 2025 it reported that ID photos sent in for age appeals were exposed in a breach at a support vendor. mssgs never asks for an ID or a face scan. It uses the age band your phone or app store already provides, or the age you enter, and protects 13 to 15 year olds until a parent links the account. One-to-one chats are end-to-end encrypted with the Signal protocol. Everything else is stored encrypted (AES-256) and never used to train AI. ### One owner per server A Discord server has exactly one owner. When that person leaves or loses their account, the server is hard to hand over. That depends on what you use Discord for.
