# Notifications

Fine-grained alerts: per-conversation mutes, per-channel control, and smart routing between devices.

Notifications should work for you, not against you. mssgs lets you tune them per conversation and per device.

## The controls

- **Per-DM mute** - silence one conversation without leaving it

- **Per-server mute** - quiet a whole community; mentions still get through

- **Per-channel settings** - choose which channels may push and which stay silent

- **Mentions** - @you always breaks through mutes (that's the point)

## Between devices

Signed in on desktop and phone? The **desktop inactivity timeout** routes notifications to your phone when your computer has been idle for a while - so alerts land where you actually are. On macOS, unread counts show as a Dock badge.
