# What is the mssgs MCP?

A secure, local bridge that lets AI assistants like Claude read, reply and even play games in your chats.

**MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI tools talk to apps.** The mssgs desktop app has a complete MCP server built in - switch it on, and AI assistants like Claude or Cursor get a secure, controlled window into your chats.

## What that means in practice

Once connected, your AI assistant can actually *do* things in mssgs - around 40 capabilities, including:

### Read & summarize

"Summarize #general in three bullets" - it reads channels, DMs, mentions and pinned messages.

### Write & reply

Send messages, reply, react, edit and pin - only if you explicitly allow writing.

### Play games

It can accept game invites, read the board and make real moves. Yes, really.

### Calls & presence

Start or answer DM voice calls, show typing, and get live updates as they happen.

## Where does it run?

Entirely on **your computer**. The MCP server lives inside the desktop app at 127.0.0.1 (loopback - unreachable from the internet) and only runs while the app is open and you're signed in. Your chats don't go anywhere new; the AI talks to your machine, your machine talks to mssgs.
