# Sending Messages

Type, send, reply, react and pin - plus read receipts that show exactly what happened to your message.

Open any conversation and type in the input bar at the bottom - hit Enter to send ( Shift + Enter for a new line on desktop). That's the basics. The good stuff is one press away.

## Do more with a message

Long-press (mobile) or right-click (desktop) any message to:

- **Reply** - quote it in a threaded reply

- **React** - drop an emoji reaction on it

- **Pin** - keep it at the top of the conversation for everyone

- **Set a reminder** - get notified about it later (see [Message Reminders](https://mss.gs/en/help/tools/reminders))

- **Edit or delete** - fix typos or take it back (your own messages)

## Know when you're read

mssgs shows Snapchat-style delivery states in direct messages: **Sent**, **Opened** and **Viewed** - so you never have to ask "did you see this?". In group conversations, use the **Read by** option to see exactly who has read a message.

## Mentions and typing

Type @ followed by a name to mention someone - they get a notification even if the conversation is muted. You can see when the other person is typing, and in DMs you even see live indicators when they're drawing on the whiteboard.
