# mssgs launches an open public feed for neighbourhoods and town halls

The feed shows every public post to everyone, newest first, without followers. Residents, municipalities, police, schools and local news share short updates about their area, and anyone can read them at feed.mss.gs without an account.

**Brummen, the Netherlands**, 8 October 2026

**mssgs**, the independent Dutch group chat application, has opened its **public feed** to everyone: one open timeline in which people, communities and local institutions share short updates about what is happening around them. Since 6 October 2026 the feed has its own site at [feed.mss.gs](https://feed.mss.gs), where anyone can read it without an account.

The feed is built for the quick, local heads-up: a road that is closed tonight, a warning about scam calls, a school that is closed tomorrow, a street party on Saturday. Nobody follows anybody, so a post reaches every reader from the very first one an account writes.

## One open timeline, newest first

The feed has no followers and no follower counts. Every post that is shared with everyone appears for everyone, and readers currently see every post with the newest at the top. A repost brings a post back to the top of the feed for all readers, with the name of the person who reposted it.

A post can hold photos, a slideshow or a video, or up to 500 characters of text with hashtags, stickers and GIFs. It may carry the city it was written in, never the exact spot.

## For residents and local institutions

The feed is intended for neighbourhood news as much as for public bodies:

- A municipality can post road works, waste collection or changed opening hours.

- The police can share a warning about scam calls or report a found bicycle.

- A school can announce a closure without asking parents to join another group chat.

- A local newspaper can post its stories with the town attached.

## No account needed to read

Because every post reaches every reader, residents do not need to find and follow the right account first. They read the feed on feed.mss.gs or in the mssgs apps, follow a single hashtag or area in an RSS reader, or see the posts on a local news site that embeds them.

The timeline on feed.mss.gs, every post page, the embeds, RSS and the read API are open to everyone. The API answers in JSON without a key, filters by hashtag, account and place, and allows 60 requests a minute per IP address. New posts can also be followed live over a WebSocket.

Organisations that publish from their own systems can create a feed API key at [mss.gs/en/developers/feed](https://mss.gs/en/developers/feed). Posts made with a key follow the same rules as posts from the app. The documentation is published at [feed.mss.gs/developers](https://feed.mss.gs/developers).

> There was a time when one public timeline told you what was happening in your street and at your town hall, while it was happening. Anyone could post and anyone could read along. We missed that, so we built it into mssgs: a feed without followers, newest first, that anyone can read without an account. René van Sweeden, founder of mssgs

## Moderation and privacy

Photos and videos appear in the feed once moderation has checked them. A text post goes live at once, unless it contains a flagged word, a link, an email address or a phone number, in which case it waits a few seconds for a check. Reports are handled by volunteer community moderators, with mssgs staff stepping in when a matter is urgent or the law requires it.

Posts shared with a private group never appear in the public feed. The feed carries no advertising, and nothing posted to it is used to train AI.

## Availability

The feed is available now at no cost. Posting is done from the mssgs app on iPhone and Android, and the feed can be read on [feed.mss.gs](https://feed.mss.gs) and in the mssgs apps on every platform. More about the feed is available at [mss.gs/en/feed](https://mss.gs/en/feed).

mssgs is free to use and carries no advertising. The servers mssgs runs on are hosted with BIT in Ede, the Netherlands. Downloads for every platform are available at [mss.gs/en/downloads](https://mss.gs/en/downloads).

mssgs is a group chat app for friends, communities and teams: channels, direct messages, voice and video calls, built-in games, bots and AI integrations over MCP. It is free to use and available on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux and the web.

mssgs is built by RUAL (Deverence Group B.V.) in Brummen, a Dutch software company that has been making business software and no-code platforms since 2009. All data is hosted in the EU, there are no ads, and nothing is sold on. mssgs is entirely self-funded.
