Age checks with a face scan or ID

Discord

Discord is rolling out a teen experience for every account it cannot confirm as adult. It estimates your age from account signals and asks some people for a face scan or ID. In October 2025 it reported that ID photos sent in for age appeals were exposed in a breach at a support vendor.

mssgs

mssgs never asks for an ID or a face scan. It uses the age band your phone or app store already provides, or the age you enter, and protects 13 to 15 year olds until a parent links the account. See child safety.

What is the best alternative to Discord?

That depends on what you use Discord for. For friend groups, gaming groups, clubs and communities that want the same basics, servers with channels, voice, roles and bots, without ads and with their data in Europe, mssgs is a strong choice: it is made in the Netherlands, free to start and has nine games built in. For huge public servers or forum channels, Discord itself is still the better fit.

Is there a European alternative to Discord?

Yes. mssgs is built by RUAL, a Dutch software company founded in 2009, falls under Dutch law and stores all data in the EU with a Dutch hosting provider. It is listed on eu-alt.eu as a European alternative to Discord and Slack.

Is there a Discord alternative without age verification?

mssgs does not ask for an ID or a face scan. It uses the age band your device or app store provides, or the age you enter, and never asks for your date of birth. Accounts aged 13 to 15 start with protective settings until a parent links the account in the Parent Center. The minimum age is 13.

Can I move my Discord server to mssgs?

Yes, by hand: there is no automatic import from Discord. Create a community, recreate your channels, categories and roles, then share an invite link or QR code in your Discord server. Large communities can contact us for help.

Is mssgs free?

Yes. Communities, channels, direct messages, voice calls, the games and the map are free for everyone. Premium is optional, is paid with credits and never renews by itself.

Does mssgs have voice channels and screen sharing?

Yes. Communities can have voice channels you drop into, with camera and screen sharing, including sound. The desktop app adds push to talk, noise suppression and an in-game overlay.

Does mssgs have bots like Discord?

Yes, and they are built in: bot messages with cards and buttons, webhooks and /command triggers that need no code. Bot accounts come with Premium. AI assistants such as Claude can connect over MCP, and only see the channels you choose.

Does mssgs have games like Discord Activities?

mssgs has nine turn-based games built into every chat, including Four in a Row, Battleship, Checkers, Word Guesser and Memory. You start one in a DM or a channel, and up to five can run at once.
