Connect Your AI (Claude, Cursor & more)

Three steps from zero to an AI assistant that works inside your chats - no coding required.

You need the mssgs desktop app from mss.gs/downloads (macOS, Windows or Linux) and an AI tool that speaks MCP, such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or Codex.

Step 1 - Switch on the server

Open mssgs on your computer and go to Settings → MCP.

Switch on Enable local MCP server.

Pick what the AI may see under Exposed channels, and switch on only the permissions you want: Allow sending messages (off means read-only), Access all DMs, and more.

Step 2 - Connect your AI tool

Under Connect AI clients, mssgs lists the tools it finds on your computer: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and Codex CLI. Click Install next to yours and mssgs writes the configuration for you.

Step 3 - Or do it by hand

For any other tool, create a named token under Access tokens → New token ("Claude laptop", for example), click Copy config and paste the block into the tool's MCP settings. The token is the key your AI uses: you see its activity and can revoke it anytime. Prefer the terminal?

Try it

Ask your assistant: "What channels can you see?" - then "Summarize the last 50 messages in #general", or start a game and invite it to play.

Not responding? The MCP server only runs while the desktop app is open and signed in. Check Common Issues if the connection fails.
