In short

mssgs as a Fluxer alternative

mssgs is a European alternative to Fluxer for friend groups, gaming groups, clubs and communities. Both are Discord-style apps with communities, text and voice channels and roles, and neither shows ads or trains AI on your messages. The difference: mssgs stores your data in the Netherlands, with BIT in Ede, while Fluxer, a Swedish company, stores it with Vultr in New Jersey, United States. On mssgs one-to-one chats are end-to-end encrypted, the iOS and Android apps are in the stores, and nine games and bots with buttons and /commands are built in. mssgs is free to start on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux and the web.

Where it runs

Made in Europe is not the same as hosted in Europe

Fluxer is a Swedish company, but its privacy policy says it hosts most account information, messages, communities and files with Vultr in Piscataway, New Jersey, and the app at web.fluxer.app answers from Vultr's American network. mssgs keeps all of it in the Netherlands. Here is who does what, and where, each with a source you can open yourself.

The company

mssgs is made by RUAL and operated by Deverence Group B.V. in Brummen: a Dutch private company, privately owned, with no foreign parent.

Where mssgs runs

The website and the domain

mss.gs and its nameservers run directly on BIT's network (AS12859), with no American middleman at the front door.

Why mssgs

Why groups pick mssgs over Fluxer

Fluxer and mssgs share the basics. These are the differences people ask about most.

Data in the United States

Fluxer

Fluxer is made in Sweden, but most of what you store there, messages, communities and files included, is hosted with Vultr in New Jersey.

mssgs

mssgs stores everything with BIT in Ede, the Netherlands, and belongs to a Dutch company with no foreign parent. Here is how to check.

Readable private messages

Fluxer

Fluxer's privacy policy says nothing on Fluxer is end-to-end encrypted yet. Encrypted calls are in testing, and encryption for DMs is on the roadmap.

mssgs

One-to-one chats are end-to-end encrypted with the Signal protocol today. Everything else is stored encrypted (AES-256) and never used to train AI.

Phone apps still in beta

Fluxer

Fluxer's iOS and Android apps are in public testing, through TestFlight and the Google Play beta. A store release is planned for 2026.

mssgs

mssgs is in the App Store and on Google Play, next to the desktop apps and the web app. See downloads.

Bots without buttons

Fluxer

Bots on Fluxer run on its API and are hosted by their developers. Slash commands, buttons and other interactions are still on the roadmap.

mssgs

Webhooks, message cards with buttons and /command triggers are built in, and AI assistants connect over MCP.

One owner per community

Fluxer

A Fluxer community has one owner. Ownership can be handed over, but it always rests with a single account.

mssgs

An mssgs community can have several owners from day one, so it never hangs on a single account.

Games through bots

Fluxer

Fluxer has no games of its own; communities add them through third-party bots.

mssgs

Nine turn-based games are built into every chat, from Four in a Row to Battleship, and up to five can run at once.

Fair is fair

What Fluxer does well

Fluxer is a good project with its own strengths. Worth knowing before you move a whole group.

  • Open source. Fluxer's code is public under the AGPL, so anyone can read it.
  • Self-hosting. You can run Fluxer on your own server, for free.
  • Big files and sharp streams with Plutonium. Files up to 500 MB, screen and camera in up to 4K at 60 frames per second.
  • Your emoji everywhere. With Plutonium, a community's custom emoji and stickers work in every chat.
  • Voice servers worldwide, in 16 regions, so calls are routed close to the people in them.
  • Independent. Funded by subscribers and donors, without venture capital.

Stay on Fluxer if

  • you want to run the server yourself
  • open source code matters more to you than where the official service is hosted
  • you mostly stream in 4K

Choose mssgs if

  • you want your data in Europe, not in New Jersey
  • you want end-to-end encrypted private chats today
  • your group uses phones and wants apps from the App Store and Google Play
  • you want games, bots with buttons and /commands, and MCP built in
  • your group wants to own its space together, with several owners

mssgs vs Fluxer: frequently asked questions

What is Fluxer?

Fluxer is a free, open source chat app in the style of Discord, made by Fluxer Platform AB, founded in Stockholm in 2025. It has communities with text and voice channels, roles and screen sharing, a paid plan called Plutonium, and you can run it on your own server. See Fluxer's company information.

Where does Fluxer store my data?

Mostly in the United States. Fluxer's privacy policy of 2 October 2026 says it hosts most account information, messages, communities, files and other content with Vultr in Piscataway, New Jersey. mssgs stores all of it with BIT in Ede, the Netherlands.

Is Fluxer end-to-end encrypted?

Not yet. Fluxer's privacy policy says nothing on Fluxer is currently end-to-end encrypted. Encrypted calls are being tested, and optional encryption for DMs and small groups is on its roadmap. On mssgs, one-to-one chats are end-to-end encrypted with the Signal protocol.

Which is better, mssgs or Fluxer?

That depends on what your group needs. If you want to run the server yourself or read the source code, Fluxer is the one. If you want your data in Europe, end-to-end encrypted private chats, finished phone apps, and games and bots built in, mssgs is the better fit: it is made in the Netherlands and free to start.

Does Fluxer have an app for iPhone and Android?

In public testing: Fluxer offers a TestFlight beta on iOS and a Google Play beta on Android, and plans a full store release in 2026. mssgs is in the App Store and on Google Play, and also runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, the web and Apple Watch. See downloads.

Is mssgs free?

Yes. Communities, channels, direct messages, voice calls, the games and the map are free for everyone. Premium is optional, is paid with credits and never renews by itself. Fluxer's Plutonium is a subscription of €4.99 a month or €49.99 a year.

Can I move my Fluxer community to mssgs?

Yes, by hand: there is no automatic import from Fluxer. Create a community, recreate your channels, categories and roles, then share an invite link or QR code in your Fluxer community. Large communities can contact us for help.

Does mssgs have bots and games?

Yes, both built in. Bot messages with cards and buttons, webhooks and /command triggers need no hosting, and AI assistants such as Claude connect over MCP. Nine turn-based games, including Four in a Row, Battleship, Checkers and Word Guesser, run inside every chat.
