Chat Locks
Put a 4-digit code on a chat or channel so nobody can open it on your unlocked phone.
Lend someone your phone without worrying about that one conversation. A lock puts a 4-digit code on a chat.
Lock a chat
1
Hold the chat in your list, or hold the name at the top of the open chat, and choose Lock with code.
2
Enter a 4-digit code and enter it again to confirm.
To take it off, choose Remove lock in the same place.
When it locks again
- When you leave the chat (after a 30-second grace period).
- When mssgs has been in the background for more than 30 seconds.
Locks on DMs follow you to your other devices. Locks on community channels stay on the device where you set them.
Forgot the code?
The lock screen offers Forgot your code? Leave conversation. That removes you from the chat, so choose a code you will remember.
Other locks
- Memories: Face ID, Touch ID or a code. See Memories.
- Archive: lock your archived chats with Face ID or a code.
