Group Chats & Communities
From a quick group DM to a full community with channels, roles and permissions.
There are two ways to chat with multiple people, depending on how serious the group is.
Group DMs - quick and casual
Start a group direct message from your DM list by adding multiple friends. Perfect for weekend plans. You can rename the group anytime, and everyone can see who's in it.
Communities - the full structure
For clubs, teams, friend groups and anything that lasts, create a community (server). Communities have their own channels:
- Text channels - organized topics, unlimited channels
- Voice channels - drop-in talk rooms with camera and screen sharing
- Photo channels - a shared camera roll
- Suggestions channels - members post ideas, everyone votes them up or down
As the owner you manage roles and permissions (who can post where, who can moderate), create invite links (optionally restricted to a specific email domain - great for companies), and even share ownership with co-owners. Public communities can be discovered in the server browser.
