Privacy Settings

End-to-end encryption, DM requests, chat locks and location privacy - your controls, explained.

mssgs is built privacy-first: EU hosting, GDPR compliance and end-to-end encrypted private chats by default. These are the knobs you control yourself.

Who can reach you

  • DM requests - new people land in a request queue first; you accept or deny. Spam never reaches your inbox.
  • Ghost mode - per-DM switch that makes messages disappear after everyone's read them and left the chat (see Ghost Mode).

Locks on your chats

  • Chat locks - protect any conversation with a 4-digit PIN; it re-locks automatically after a few minutes idle
  • Biometric unlock - open locked chats with Face ID / Touch ID where your device supports it
  • Memories - your private photo vault, also behind Face ID or a code

Location privacy

Sharing your live location is always your choice per conversation. With Premium you get two extra tools: freeze your location on a spot (it stays there until you unfreeze) or go ghost on the map entirely.

Account security

Enable two-factor authentication under Settings → Security (authenticator app, SMS or email) and review your signed-in devices under Settings → Devices - sign out anything you don't recognize with one tap.

Your data

  • No AI training - your message content is never used to train AI models.
  • Full export, anytime - download all your data whenever you like. If you cancel, you get 30 days to export before everything is permanently deleted.
