Common Issues

My sign-in code does not arrive

• Look in your spam or junk folder.
• Wait a minute, then go back and ask for a new code. Check the email address for typos.
• Still nothing? Sign in with Regular login? Click here if you set a password, or approve the sign-in from another device where you are signed in.

I do not get notifications

• Open Settings → Notifications in mssgs. If push shows as disabled, tap Enable or Open Settings.
• Check the phone itself: iOS Settings → Notifications → mssgs, and whether a Focus mode is on.
• Is the channel or community muted? Hold it and check.
• Also signed in on a computer? Your phone waits while you are active there. See Desktop Inactivity Timeout and Notification Delay in Notifications.

My message or photo will not send

• Check your connection. mssgs sends what is waiting as soon as you are back online.
• Attachments can be up to 25 MB and chat videos up to 60 seconds on a free account.
• In a community, your role may not allow posting files, GIFs or voice memos in that channel.
• Check status.mss.gs. If something is wrong on our side, it is listed there.

I forgot the code of a locked chat

A chat code cannot be reset. The lock screen offers Forgot your code? Leave conversation. See Chat Locks.

I cannot find a setting

Type what you are looking for in Search settings at the top of Settings. See A Tour of Settings.

A game invite does not work

• Make sure you both have the latest version of mssgs.
• Ask for the room code or the QR code in the lobby and use Join a game.
• You can have 5 games going at once. Finish or leave one to start another.
• Room full? Most games are for 2 players, Snake, Snake Capture, Polymono and Word Guesser for up to 4.

The desktop app does not update

Updates install when you restart. Quit mssgs completely and open it again. Still stuck? Download the latest version from mss.gs/downloads and install it over the old one. Your chats and settings stay.

My AI tool cannot reach the MCP server

• The server only runs while the desktop app is open and signed in.
• Check that Enable local MCP server is on in Settings → MCP, and that your token has not been revoked.
• The Mac App Store version has no MCP server. Install mssgs from mss.gs/downloads.
• Copy the config again from the MCP tab: the port can change when another app took it.

I lost my phone or my second step

Sign in on another device with an email code and remove the lost phone under Settings → Devices. If you lost your two-factor method and have no backup number, contact support.
